From John- If you have ever spent time in a high alpine environment, you have probably seen an alpine chough or raven. They are like an old friend constantly with you. In many cultures there's the belief that these birds carry the souls of lost skiers and climbers that died in the mountains. They fly above us watching out while we venture into the mountains....

This version uses a map of the Elk Mountain Range (specifically the Maroon Bells area) of Colorado.

This piece was originally inspired by my time at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Banff, Canada as well as my summers and winter spent in the Swiss Alps.

The original artwork is a hand carved linoleum block and was printed using a wooden spoon.
