for whom the buzzer tolls with Elissa Eaton
I first met Elissa via my buddy Tom Bond. He had shared her work and when asked if she was interested in doing an installation, Elissa wasted no time in bringing piles of paper over to a strange church on the North side where we sometimes put shows together. Elissa and Tom spent several days turning a crawl space inside the church into a fantastic diorama. Of course there are no pictures(that I’m aware of) and I think that speaks to the ephemeral materials Elissa uses. She elevates paper to high art, and seeing her work progress is a real treat. Her cutting method, and using the paper itself as a drawing material makes her such a perfect fit for neü folk. Enjoy Elissa’s range reaching playlist below, and click on by to see available works.

MK: What are you working on presently?
EE: A big painting of a mossy stump with an egret, mist, and lots of little embroidered plants. Cut paper animals with masks. Lately I’ve loved working on pieces with intricate details like sewing the tree bark pattern and stitching the moss. Using spray paint and acrylic washes to create layers.
MK: What was the last album you listened to start to finish?
EE: Black Sabbath-Paranoid
MK: What’s the vibe for summer 2025? What song will you be playing on repeat?
EE: Iggy Pop- The Passenger. This song makes me happy.
MK: What’s your hype song?
EE: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica played on the organ at TD Garden while I ride on the zamboni.
