“Blue sky like a blanket, shaking out the dust
I’m looking for some green against the rust
Ayee-oooo”

– San Luis Valley Song, Annie Hills

It’s said the song on long dusty stretches of the desert helped to ease pain and suffering. It was a practical tool — a means to quiet the cows, lest they stampede late at night. But it served as a mindfulness tool, too. Opening a portal toward somewhere else, a brighter day, a warmer tomorrow. Helpful because the mind would wander on the desolate trail and the arid foothills could play tricks. Each artist in this show is a frontier creator, using a unique style to interpret the trail songs on their own road West. Collectively, they give us all a new lens through which to relate to our surrounding, sometimes unforgiving, landscape.
